Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils from plants for healing and the maintenance of health. It works by helping the body’s natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself. Although essential oils are generally used in massage, they can also be used in lotions, creams, baths and inhalations etc. to help treat different conditions.
What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are obtained from flowers, leaves, roots, resins, spices, seeds and grasses. They consist of tiny aromatic molecules that are readily absorbed via the skin and the lungs. They then pass into the bloodstream and are carried around the body helping to regulate, balance and heal. Pure essential oils have a wide variety of properties, which may help to alleviate many physical ailments. They may also be psychologically balancing and promote relaxation. Holistic Aromatherapy is concerned with helping to improve the health of the whole person. So as well as massage, advice may be given on diet, exercise, stress management and other lifestyle issues as appropriate for the individual client.
Some conditions that may benefit from Holistic Aromatherapy are:
- Muscular aches and pains – including backache
- Joint pains
- Stress and Anxiety
- Sleep disorders
- Poor circulation
- Skin problems
- Hormonal imbalances
- Digestive problems
- Breathing disorders
The first visit includes a consultation about your general health and vitality, medical history and emotional well being in order to decide which essential oils to use and plan the massage treatment. Essential oils are then selected and blended with a massage carrier oil, taking into account your needs and preferences, to give an Individual Prescription
The treatment is tailored to meet the needs of each client with extra focus on any problem areas. See Deep Tissue Massage for more information.
