Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils from plants for healing and the maintenance of health. It works by helping the body’s natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself. Although essential oils are generally used in massage, they can also be used in lotions, creams, baths and inhalations etc. to help treat different conditions.
What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are obtained from flowers, leaves, roots, resins, spices, seeds and grasses. They consist of tiny aromatic molecules that are readily absorbed via the skin and the lungs. They then pass into the bloodstream and are carried around the body helping to regulate, balance and heal. Pure essential oils have a wide variety of properties, which may help to alleviate many physical ailments. They may also be psychologically balancing and promote relaxation. Holistic Aromatherapy is concerned with helping to improve the health of the whole person. So as well as massage, advice may be given on diet, exercise, stress management and other lifestyle issues as appropriate for the individual client.
